An American Catholic bishops committee reviewing policy on sexually abusive
priests noted that “many, perhaps a majority,” of prelates
hope that they could eventually allow priests who are truly rehabilitated
back into the ministry. Do you think it will ever be acceptable for the
Catholic Church to change its "zero tolerance" policy, in which
priests guilty of even one abusive act with a minor must be permanently
removed from active ministry?
Yes 10.11%
No 89.89%

Comments: It's sick to know that you can't even trust your local priest
anymore. The main reason most of them get into being a priest is to be
around all of the little kids. Then they gain the kids trust and then they
go ahead and RAPE the kid.I am begining to think that if MICHEAL JACKSON
wasn't a singer he would have been a priest!

Comments: It's instructive that this is coming from AMERICA. The moral
decay in our land has even perverted the understanding of our supposed
moral 'leadership'. To even think of allowing a sex offender to function
as a priest is spiritually pathological and morally bankrupt.

Comments: Priests are supposed to be the teachers of morality. What moral
authority would they have to conduct their moral teachings if they tolerate
sexual abuse of our children? If the church is even perceived to condone
sexual abuse, the churchgoers would leave the church in droves and nobody
would benefit from that---not the church nor the churchgoers, for people
need a refuge where they can go for their ethical, moral, and spiritual
growth and escape, albeit temporarily, from the trials and tribulations
of their hectic lives of the material world.

sensible

Comments: There is with out a doubt that no human is above the law. Pope
Leo XIII states in "Human Viteae" that we must obey the laws
of civil law, just as God has given us the "Ten Commands" to
govern our lives so these laws are also made out of those Commands. No
priest that I have ever knowen to have had such a weakness. I thank God
for that. Than to any priest who is allowed such evilness entice their
mind than they have foresaken their True Love For God. No one is above
the law.

Comments: Zero tolerance is the only cure. I'm sick of hearing about homo
priests and so are the straight priests who have to bear the brunt of
these ongoing scandals. Adult men can't continue to ruin little kids lives
for sexual gradification. The church needs more GOOD priests, to carry
on it's important ministry to the faithful Catholics who can weather the
devil's storms.

Deb...certainly you can't be serious?!? You're saying that because a
priest can't marry a woman and have a family, it leads them into lifelong
lust for young boys?!?!? Come on!!

Comments: I'm sure eventually the catholic church will create some kind
of "ancient, sacred ritual" that will exorcise or otherwise
absolve abusive priests of this evil - akin to annulments - and the gullible
flock will eat this crap up!
Laugh a minute, those nutty catholics...

time in a federal prison. That includes Cradinal Law. The church is wrong
to protect these sickos.

Comments: Priests do not become priests for the sole purpose to abuse
children. But because the Catholic hierarchy does not allow priests to
have normal lives - to get married and have families - this is probably
the root of the abusive behavior. With the current shortage of priests,
let them get married. The Catholic Church has been aware for centuries
that some priests, cardinals, bishops were involved with women, so why
not accept this notion today?

Comments: Once a child molester always a child molester. Those men need
to be put as far away as possible from children. As the saying goes "Once
shame on you, twice shame on me". Look at all the cases in Florida
lately.

all my life and I am so emmbarrassed at what the church has allowed to
go on and then have the gall to think money would repair the wrong ...AND
SHAME ON THE PARENTS THAT TOOK THE PAY-OFFs.They will have to answer to
the big guy in the end.....They should rot in hell.

Comments: They need to realize that there is currently NO cure for pedophila
so to allow a pedophile to have access to another child is criminal. Once
they have proven they have pedophila, that should be it.

Comments: The Church does have a policy to forgive others of wrong doings.
I can understand in the case of a priest who falls off the wagon due to
Alcholism, or Gambling. When it comes to abusing children BOTH SEXUALLY
AND EMOTIONALLY (BEATINGS, ETC) I think that is drawing the line. Regular
people can' do it, why should they?

Comments: Avoid even the "appearance of evil."
especially because the abuse happened against children, I doubt that
this policy would ever be approved by th epeople in the pews, regardless
of what the"An American Catholic bishops committee reviewing policy
on sexually abusive priests " thinks or suggests.
